Abia State Polytechnic now known as Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic is a state owned Polytechnic that is located in Aba,Abia State. The Polytechnic was renamed in 2024 to Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic in honour of first executive Governor of Abia State.
Abia State Polytechnic was established based on the edict No of 1994 which was already Formulated in 1992 before taking its effect in 1994.
The Polytechnic was established and founded on the premises of the defunct Technical College (GTC) Aba, along Aba Owerri Road. The Polytechnic upon its establishment started offering certificate programme with ND programme in that same until 1999 when the Polytechnic started offering HND Programme.
It should be noted that the Polytechnic is a multi-Campus institution with its campuses located in Aba and Umuahia respectively.
Abia Polytechnic was established with the mission of engaging in the production of sound graduates and shall provide studies, research, training and development of techniques in applied art and science, technology, management , commerce and other field of learning.
The Polytechnic has a dedicated library that provide both physical and online services including providing access to resources both physically and also online.

Admission Requirement
• SSCE/NECO/NABTEB/GCE O’Level with credit passes in five relevant subjects obtained at not more than two sittings.
• National Technical Certificate (NTC) or National Business Certificate (NBC) with a pass in a trade plus four relevant academic subjects.
• A satisfactory score in the UTME examination conducted annually by JAMB.
Other Requirements
• Five credits in relevant subjects obtained at the final examination of the NBTE-recognized Preliminary ND programme offered in a polytechnic or similar post-secondary technical institution.
• All candidates applying for Science and Technology programmes must possess credit passes in Mathematics and English Language (not Literature in English). Applicants for Business and Management programmes must also meet the relevant subject requirements.
• A pass in the final examination of the Polytechnic Pre-Science and Technology Programme is required for applicants into Technology programmes.
• Candidates should have credit passes in English Language and Mathematics.
• Consult the relevant department for any specific departmental entry requirements.

Hostel Accommodation Fee
Hostel is not available in the institution premises so for accomodation students have to reside around the Institution premises by renting apartment depending on the student budget.
To rent apartment outside the institution premises students are advised to budget atleast ₦80,000-₦350,000 depending on the student financial capacity and also accomodation in Umuahia will be higher than in Aba.
