How to Verify If a Polytechnic Is Accredited
To verify whether a polytechnic is verified, most especially a private polytechnic, one of the first and best methods is checking through the National Board. For the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) website, the board will publish the list of polytechnics that were accredited by it, and another way of verification is checking through the JAMB brochure or portal. Polytechnics on the JAMB portal are also accredited by NBTE, and also a polytechnic showing on the JAMB portal also gives you peace of mind that your National Youth Service Corps enrollment is 100% guaranteed if all obligations are met.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
° How many accredited polytechnics are in Nigeria?
Based on the date gotten from the NBTE Portal for the year 2025/2026, there are currently 194 polytechnics, but these can change as new polytechnics can also be created, hence increasing the number of existing polytechnics.
° Which is the best accredited polytechnic in Nigeria?
The best accredited polytechnics in Nigeria are The Polytechnic Ibadan, Federal Polytechnic Oye Ekiti, and Kaduna Polytechnic.
and many others
° Is NBTE accreditation compulsory?
Like, it is very compulsory not to get accredited by NBTE by any polytechnic in Nigeria; it is like you are operating an illegal and unapproved institution, and this means the students in such an institution are not recognized nationwide, and their certificates are just fake.
° Can I attend an unaccredited polytechnic?
Don’t try unless you want to waste your time, efforts, and resources, as the result obtained from such institutions is not verified and is usually deemed fake.
° How do I check if my polytechnic is accredited?
You can check polytechnic accreditation through the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and through the JAMB brochure.
° Are all private polytechnics accredited?
No, in fact, the chance of a public polytechnic, be it state or federal, not getting accredited is very low compared to a private polytechnic, which is high. Not all private polytechnics in Nigeria are accredited.
