Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, formerly referred to as Ondo State Polytechnic, is a popular, well-known polytechnic that is located in the ancient town of Owo, Ondo State. The institution sits upon a large expanse of land, making it one of the institutions in Ondo State with the largest landmass even compared to its status as a polytechnic.
Based on the previous work done by the administration of the late governor of Ondo State, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who made a plan to upgrade the institution to a university, the process is also handled by its successor, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, who made a bill that will see that the institution is upgraded to a university.
Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, also known as RUGIPO, was established as The Polytechnic Owo in 1979 by the then military governor of Ondo State, Sunday Tuoyo, with the institution beginning its academic activities the following year, which was 1980.
In 1990 the Polytechnic was renamed from The Polytechnic Owo to Ondo State Polytechnic before it was renamed to its present Rufus Giwa Polytechnic in 2003 in order to honor Chief Rufus Giwa, who was a prominent businessman from Ondo State.
Rufus Giwa Polytechnic is accredited by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, making the polytechnic one of the few polytechnics in Nigeria that is accredited by the accounting profession bodies.

National Diploma (ND) Admission Requirements
• Obtain a minimum UTME score of 100 in the recent JAMB UTME.
• Choose Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, as your first choice institution or complete a change of institution on JAMB CAPS.
