Edo State Polytechnic is a state-owned polytechnic that is situated in Usen Ovia South West, Edo State. The institution was formerly named Edo State Institute of Technology and Management before it was renamed and upgraded to Edo State Polytechnic to meet NBTE requirements.
Edo State Polytechnic was established in 2002 by the former Governor of Edo State, Chief Dr. Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion, who established the institution for the purpose of producing required manpower for industrial development and producing graduates who are self-reliant.
Edo State Polytechnic, as of the time of establishment, was situated on the premises of the defunct Elawure Grammar School before it was taken over by the institution to serve as an academic and administrative activities center.
It should be noted that the institution initially established as Edo State Institute of Technology and Management was upgraded to meet the NBTE requirements ratio of 70%–30% technology to management courses.
